Leftover

leftover: Pad thai is good the next day. I decided to try and
make pad thai after we realized how much we were spending on thai
takeout.. Mine doesn't taste quite like restaurant pad thai but it is
pretty good.

@ PTs

2 P.T.s - that days I ate pad thai leftovers that I made the night
before and had a physical therapy appointment. I like the similarity
between the shrimp and my spine- i have back pain from sitting and
walking with bad posture :(

Pear Pita Eata

On this day I ate things that began with the same
letter. Pear, pita chips, and then more pretzels. I also got a
massage. During the massage, my jaw got really sore which messed up my ability to chew for a few hours.

Pac Me

This day I ate a lot of carbohydrates! i walk all day for
my job so I feel that I can eat anything. This day I ate leftover
pasta for breakfast. The image is backwards. I edited it with
photoshop. The pasta flowing down from the left is really the pasta
for the leftovers breakfast. later I ate a banana loaf from Billy's
Bakery. and then...

I eat a lot of pretzels. Currently I enjoy Happy Herbert's Honey
Wheat pretzel sticks. I eat a lot of them. They are good with beer.
Magic Hat 9 is the beer depicted in the drawing. Whenever I have an
alcoholic beverage, I tend to consume food at the same time.

Flax and Soup: I love to eat things in bowls. The day started with the usual cereal. In the journals I keep, I note that there are a lot of meals that I eat over and over again.

Later for lunch I eat soup. I make soup a lot. Especially in the winter. It is the kind
of meal that can be a two or three meals rather than just one. This sketch was crab soup on this day. Later, my husband Mike got me my favorite muffin from Amy's Bread: hazelnut cherry almond. Later, we met friends at a Japanese noodle place: Me Kui Te. I get the
Canton ramen. So good with sake, shumai, and beer.

Fiestaware does little to spice up my lackluster cereal

Fiesta- This drawing depicts my cereal bowl. For breakfast, I
often eat the same thing every morning. It is rather boring. Cereal,
banana, and sometimes fresh berries or dried cranberries. The cereal is currently flax cereal. With winter coming, the cereal will change to oatmeal.

I am against instant oatmeal! I prefer to cook whole
grain oats. The banana is added midway into the cooking pot so that the banana cooks into the oatmeal. Cereal: it needs to sit a few
minutes and absorb the milk. I use almond milk.

Trying to write an artist statement about my sausage paintings

Beyond Vanitas

I recently had an incident where I tried to return sausages to the store. It was a prepackaged and pre-cooked set of four so I thought returning the meat the next day was not a big deal. I did a few errands, then arrived at my local grocery store ready to exchange my highly fattening pork sausage with (what I perceive to be) healthy chicken sausage.

I was directed to a female manager. She slowly reached for my receipt and goods. Scowling she inquired “Is there anything wrong with this?” I said, “No, I just bought the wrong kind.” She stares at the receipt and the date, mouth down-turned and eyes slanted with suspicion, nose wrinkled with disgust. (Not the face of good customer service in other words). She calls for another manager. The more in charge, decision-making manager takes hold of my sausage package. He fingers it and manhandles my yesterday purchased pack of four pork sausages. What seems to hours pass. Finally, “These are warm!” he declares. I, now feeling protective of my mistakenly bought precooked meat, say “ well that is because you are grabbing at them causing friction!” “No,” shaking his head, “we cannot accept these back. They are warm. They have not been refrigerated!” I argue for a moment that the sensation of temperature varies and about the rate of travel to the store from my apartment. Irritated I snatch back my 4 meat tubes from the manager’s meat hooks. “FINE!” I spun on my toes and took off out the door in what could be connoted as a huff. The two managers loathed me as I them, of this I am sure.

Why could they have not said in a friendly manner, “Oh it is our store policy that you cannot return any meat products unless they are teeming with maggots. So sorry dear and loyal customer!” If that were the case I would have laughed at my ridiculous request while confessing, “Oh yes that makes great sense! I will not feel shame and hide from you the next time I am buying my groceries that I seem to buy almost daily here. Thank you kind grocers!”

In the end, I went home and later cooked those four sausages up in a pasta dish. I wanted to hate them. But, I didn’t.

What I did do is become obsessed with the shape and color and the grotesque form of sausages and began painting them.
